MSI GS65 Stealth Review – 9th generation Intel processor and RTX graphics card, what could be the problem?

MSI GS65 Stealth Review – 9th generation Intel processor and RTX graphics card, what could be the problem?

The notebook has an all-aluminum construction and measures 17.9 mm and has a scale of 1.90 kg. In fact, last year we tested the MSI GS63 Stealth, which was just a little thinner, however, we were not satisfied with the quality of the build.

Go to the lid and we can easily open it with one hand. In addition, we see this year, it is expected that MSI has adopted a borderless screen design, shaved a few millimeters here and there, which leads to a smaller package overall.

However, the next part is impressive for this laptop – it's the foundation. First, we see that the huge ventilation grille can be seen not only from this side but also from the other side – yes, which means that the MSI GS65 Stealth is a transparent device. Hmm...not really, but from the vents, through the fans to the back of the laptop is very interesting.

Seriously now, the keyboard stroke is quite short, but it is very clickable, reminding us of some of Apple's butterfly switches. In addition, MSI provides a one-button RGB backlight for the SteelSeries that you can easily control from a dedicated application. Below is a huge touchpad. It may be as tall as most touchpads, but it is very wide. In addition, it has a very smooth texture and is very comfortable to use – especially the 144 Hz display.

Unlike previous models, the GS65 Stealth is more rugged and does not bend too much. However, when the laptop was hot, we noticed some buzzing from the chassis – especially the part around the cooling assembly. The main reason should be through heat expansion, but though – it's a bit annoying.

At the bottom, as we mentioned, you can see a huge ventilation grille and two small cuts in the speaker. There is plenty of room around this laptop to drain the hot air.

height weight
MSI GS65 Stealth 17.9 mm (0.70") 1.90 kg (4 lbs)
Acer Predator Triton 500 17.8 mm (0.71 inch) 2.09 kg (4.6 lbs)
Lenovo Legion Y740 20 – 23.85 mm (0.79 in) 2.20 kg (4.9 lbs)
port
On the left, you will find an RJ-45 connector with two USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen. 1) ports and two 3.5 mm audio jacks, and on the right side, you will see the charging barrel plug. The HDMI 2.0 connector is placed next to the Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt connectors, and finally has a USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen. 2) port.

Display quality
MSI GS65 Stealth shares the same IPS panel as HP Omen 15 (2018), ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX531GM and Acer Predator Triton 500. It is model number is AUO B156HAN08.2 (AUO82ED). It has a diagonal of 15.6 inches (39.62 cm) and a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The screen ratio is 16:9, and we see a pixel density of –142 ppi with a pitch of 0.18×0.18 mm. When viewed at a distance equal to or greater than 60 cm (24 inches), the screen becomes Retina (from this distance, one eye stops distinguishing between different pixels and looking at the laptop is normal).
